Peter T. Gargas, 92, of New Bedford passed away peacefully at home on Sunday April 8, 2012. He was the husband of Christina (Gartaganis) Gargas.
Born in Winchester, the son of the late Theodore and Fotini (Hastoupis) Gargas, he moved to Athens at the age of ten and returned to New Bedford in 1945.
He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
Mr. Gargas was a real estate developer who owned and operated the P. J. Haste Company.
He attended the University of Athens and was a graduate of Tufts University. While living in Greece during World War II he was a member of the Greek Underground Resistance. After returning to the United States, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and served in Italy.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling to Greece every year.
He is survived by his wife and his brother-in-law, Arthur J. Gartaganis.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
