Obituary

Barry Kim Franks, 57, of Tifton died Monday, April 9, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2012, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Paul Thomas will officiate. Lance Purvis, Matt Franks, Bruce Franks, Brice Franks, Randy Clegg and Dale Goble will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Dan Richardson's Sunday school class at Tifton’s First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 14, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Franks was born on December 27, 1954 in Fort Riley, Kansas, and was the son of Willard B. Franks and Florence Salyers Franks, both deceased. He was retired from the United States Army and was awarded the title of Kentucky Colonel. He taught JROTC at Wilcox County High School and was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church. He had lived in Tifton for eleven years.

Mr. Franks is survived by his wife, Karen Clegg Franks of Tifton; two sons, Chris Franks and Matthew Franks, both of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Lance Purvis of Chula; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Teresa Franks of Leesburg and Brice and Kim Franks of Preston; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Brenda Raybon of Reynolds and Bonita and Danny Love of Blue Ridge; and one grandson, Bryson Purvis of Chula.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 or the North American Missions Organization at First Baptist Church of Tifton, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794.
