SPENCER: Donald G. Gobi of Spencer passed away on April 5, 2012 surrounded by his family. Donald was born on May 9, 1918 to Costello and Dora (Dion) Gobi. He was predeceased by his wife Lucille (Tremblay) Gobi and his brother, Reginald “Shike” Gobi. Donald leaves his sister-in-law and caregiver, Harriet (Sands) Gobi, his nephews, Richard Gobi and his wife Lori, Bruce Gobi and his wife Cheryl Boissoneau, Robert Gobi, Brian Gobi and his wife Lisa, Peter Gobi and his wife Dr. Deb Gurski and his niece Anne Gobi and her partner Robert Head. He also leaves several cousins, grandnieces and nephews. Donald was a communicant of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish and attended Spencer schools. Donald worked at the Allen & Squire Company before joining the Army in 1942. He proudly served with the 16th General Hospital in Liege, Belgium. The 16th was an Army experiment to place tent hospitals as close to fighting lines as possible. The 16th was hit 3 times by buzz bombs and saw many patients and casualties during the Battle of the Bulge. When his military service ended Donald returned to Spencer to join his father as a barber at Costello’s Barber Shop, he worked there until his father’s retirement and continued the business until his own retirement in 1990. Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing and traveling with his wife Lucille, especially to reunions with fellow Veteran’s from the 16th General Hospital. The family is grateful for the assistance we received in being able to keep Donald in his home. A special thanks to Paulette, Margaret, Hannah, Lynn and Violet.
