Francis B. Downey, 77, of Tiverton, RI passed away on Tuesday March 27, 2012. He was the husband of Pauline (Pereira) Downey.
Born in East Freetown, the son of the late John J. and Florence M. (Bosworth) Downey, he was raised in Fairhaven, where he was a graduate of Fairhaven High School. He later resided in California before moving to Tiverton many years ago.
Mr. Downey was formerly employed as a firefighter at the Newport Naval Base until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He loved carpentry and was an avid reader.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Brian F. Downey of Cranston, RI; a brother, Joseph Downey of Red Bluff, CA; his sisters, Helen Sullivan of New Bedford, Kathleen Patricia Oliveira of Fairhaven, and Barbara Affonce of Acushnet; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Menino and his brothers John Jr., James, Paul, Thomas, and Lawrence Downey.
