Stanley J. Orzechowski
Manchester – Stanley J. Orzechowski, 89, died April 2, 2012 at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack.
He was born December 17, 1922, in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Nicpon) Orzechowski. He was resident of Manchester for 60 years.
Stanley was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire. Before that he proudly served in the US Navy, stationed at the Portsmouth Naval Prison. It was during that time that he met the love of his life, Evelyn deRochemont of Portsmouth. On moving to Manchester, he was employed by MKM Knitting Mills and Pandora Industries for over 32 years. Work was essential to him, starting at the age of eight selling newspapers. Never formally retiring, he continued working until three weeks before is death.
A deeply religious man, Stanley was devoted to the Catholic Church. Most recently he served as a Lector for daily mass at Sacred Heart Church, and also Sunday Reading Lector at Mt. Carmel Nursing Home Chapel for 20 years. He was fortunate enough to have met Pope John Paul II several times and was a member of the John Paul II Society. He was a member of the Legion of One Thousand Men. He served for many years on the Diocesan School Board of Manchester and was vice-chairman. He was also a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 102.
Stanley’s loves included reading, the ocean, and nature, with his greatest joy coming from his time spent hiking in the White Mountains. He was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club and the AMC 4000 Footer Club. He continued to hike into his eighties and shared that love with his children and relatives. His kind and gentle demeanor will be missed by all who knew him.
Stanley is survived by his three sons; John Orzechowski and his wife Doris of Goffstown, Thomas Orzechowski and his wife Susie of Epping, Peter Orzechowski and his wife Jane of Newport, and five daughters; Ann Payson and her husband Bill of Lee, Mary Orzechowski and her partner Bruce Marks of Hooksett, Nancy Sakelarios and her husband Mike of Bedford, Beth Griffin and her husband Marc of Portsmouth, Judith Orzechowski and her fiancé Joseph Weglowski of North Hampton. Twelve grandchildren: Aaron, Sarah and Matthew Payson, Francis, Russell, Amelia, Sophie, Neil, Katrina and Johanna Orzechowski, Charlotte and Arden Griffin. Two brothers, John Orzechowski and his wife Joan, Fred Orzechowski and his wife Irene, four sisters, Ceil Decker, Helen Blum, Mary Cortese and Josephine Brigantic, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years; Evelyn (deRochemont) in 1997, brother Francis Orzechowski, and sister Sophie Pow.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in Sacred Heart Church, 265 So Main Street, Manchester, NH 03102.
Burial with military honors was in Newington Cemetery, Nimble Hill Rd, Newington, NH 03801 on Wednesday, April 11, 2012.
