Obituary

SALEM, NH – Chauncey M. Horton, Jr., 91 of Salem, NH and formerly of North Andover passed away peacefully Monday April 2, 2012 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Garrison on Hudson, New York, he was the son of Chauncey M. and Florence M. (Jaycox) Horton and was a graduate of Haldane High School in Cold Spring, NY. He began his career with Western Electric in New York, before enlisting in the service during World War II serving in the U.S. Army as a Tech Sergeant for the 94th Signal Battalion under General George Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. He received the American Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged from service. For 41 years he worked as a Senior Staff Engineer at Western Electric in North Andover, MA.

Chauncey was a registered professional engineer, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a member of the Forest Street Union Church in Methuen, a scout master and an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Helen M. (Jacob) Horton of Salem, NH. He also leaves his children Robert M. Horton and his wife Carolyn of Newark, DE, Lori Outzen of Bedford, NH, Richard G. Horton and his wife Barbara of Derry, NH and Joanne M. Rossi and her husband Anthony of Methuen, MA.
Grandchildren Jennifer, Kristin, Timothy, Lindsey, Lauran, Anthony and Cara.
Four great-grandchildren.
Chauncey was predeceased by his sister Beatrice Anna Horton and his beloved granddaughter Jaime Brooke Outzen.

ARRANGEMENTS: In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund 10 Brookline Place Brookline, MA 02445. or to the MSPCA 400 Broadway Methuen, MA 01844. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4:00p.m. – 6:30p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral services will follow at 6:30p.m. in the funeral home. A private burial in Cold Spring, NY will be held at a later date.
