TAUNTON – Deodato S. Gonzaga, husband of Laurette M. (Inacio) Gonzaga, died on March 28, 2012 at his Taunton home, surrounded by his family.
He was 79.
Born, raised and educated in Terceira, Azores, he was the son of the late Luis M. and Emelia (Pereira) Gonzaga.
While residing in the Azores, he was very involved in Azorean festivities including bullfighting.
A veteran of the Portuguese Army, Mr. Gonzaga moved to the U.S. in 1970 and resided in New Jersey where he worked as a custodian.
He moved to Taunton in 1999.
An avid soccer fan and gardener, Mr. Gonzaga cherished time spent with his grandchildren.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Ana M. Romano and her husband Nicholas of Taunton; two sons, George A. Gonzaga, Sr. of Taunton and Luis P. Gonzaga and his wife Helia of Dighton; two grandchildren, Stephanie V. Gonzaga and George A. Gonzaga, Jr., both of Taunton; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Monday, April 2nd at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church, Taunton at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, April 1st from 5 to 8 p.m.
