Obituary

WAYLAND: Mary Elizabeth (Hourigan) Walker, 77, died peacefully under the care and comfort of her family on Sunday, March 25, 2012 following a brief illness.
She was born in Boston on October 17, 1934 the daughter of the late Edmund M. Hourigan and Elizabeth M. (Connelly) Hourigan.
Mary is survived by her beloved and devoted children: Edmund M. Walker and his wife Jill and their children Emily and Alicia Walker all of Natick; Louise C. Corliss and her children Mitchell and Kevin Corliss all of Wayland and Karen J. Walker and her husband Earl James of Sante Fe, New Mexico. Also survived by a brother Stephen M. Hourigan and his wife Kesinee of NC. Also survived by Diane Shaw of Lincoln, NH, longtime companion of Mary’s late brother Edmund M. Hourigan who died in 2011 as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the wife of the late George P. Walker who died in 2001.
Mary spent her formative years in Dorchester and graduated from Girls Latin High School. Mary has been a resident of Wayland for the past four years and resided in Weston for over 40 years where she raised her family. She graduated from Boston City Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She had long career in the field of nursing beginning at the New England Medical Center in Boston, at the Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco, CA and at the Waltham Hospital in the Medical Surgical Department. For many years she was the nurse for the Campion Center in Weston before retiring. Among her many interests, she was an avid reader, loved to do crossword puzzles and gardening as well as traveling. She enjoyed her time with her family and friends and was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by them.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Private family services will be held at the Walker family lot in Linwood Cemetery in Weston.
In lieu of flowers her family suggests that memorial gifts in Mary’s memory may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Assoc, 311 Arsenal St, Watertown, MA 02472 or to the Tremont School, 21 Eliot St, Natick and would be greatly appreciated by her family.
