Lorraine (Engstrom) Roderick 82 of Provincetown died peacefully at Seashore Point on Friday March 23, 2012. She was surrounded by her family including her husband Bernard P. “Sonny” Roderick, her grandchildren David and Katherine Young and her daughter in law Sue Roderick.
Born in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Amelia (Gareau) Engstrom, whom had lived in Provincetown several years ago. In 1946, while playing basketball in Brockton for Provincetown High, Sonny met Lorraine and they were married 3 years later. Prior to their marriage in 1949 she worked as a hair dresser and telephone operator. She resided in Provincetown all of her married life. She was the mother of the late Bernard P. “Sonny” Roderick Jr. who died in 2007 and the late Brenda Young who died in 2011. Besides her husband and daughter in law Sue, she is survived by 5 of her 7 grandchildren including David, Katherine and Harland Young and Kurt and Alex Roderick. She was also the grandmother of the late Robert Young who died in 2010 and Jennifer Roderick who died in 1977. She was the great grandmother of Kaitlyn, Jonathan, Nicholas, Corbin, Evelyn M. and Hunter Young and she was the mother in law of the late William Young.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter the Apostle Church 11 Prince St. Provincetown on Saturday March 31, 2012 at 10:00am. There will be no visiting hours. If desired memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Seashore Point Residence Fund 100 Alden St. Provincetown, MA 02657.
