Obituary

Atha Lee Petty “Mimi” Troup, 87, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 4 PM Monday in the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Tucker and the Rev. Steve O’Neal officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Troup was born July 13, 1924 in Monroe, North Carolina to the late Gill & Ada Rawlins Petty. Her family moved to Irwin County when she was three years old. She had been a resident of Ben Hill County since 1957. She was a former employee of the White Swan Laundry, Jolly Jeweler, and Dock’s Credit Jewelry as well as the Ben Hill County Mental Health Department. She enjoyed working in her yard, sewing, and reading. Mrs. Troup had a passion for and a love of children and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church, where she served many years in the Nursery Department.

She is survived by her daughters and a son-in-law: Betty Troup of Fitzgerald and Deborah T. & Ken Douglas of Morristown, Tennessee; brother: Drew Petty of Adel; sister: Margaret Petty of Lakeland, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: William Edford Troup; a son: Jordan Troup; and siblings: Grady Petty, Geraldine Cox, Lois Sirmons, Dewey Petty, and Ray Petty.
