Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Jorge Velez, 52, died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at home following an extended illness. He is survived by his son, Shawn Willmonton and Shawn's mother, Robin Frazier. He was the companion of Maria Briand who was the love of his life for the past fourteen years.
Born on May 29, 1959 in Puerto Rico and has been a resident of Gloucester for most of his adult life. He was raised in New York by several foster families that cared for him through the years.
Jorge was a bright, charismatic and caring man who overcame many of life’s challenges. He enjoyed barbecues, tracking the weather, computers and various sporting events. Jorge was often seen going for walks to one of his favorite places, Dunkin Donuts. A friendly man by nature, Jorge made friends easily even with the doctors and staff when he was in the hospital. He was a member of the Cape Ann Social Club for many years where he made several lifelong friends. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is also survived by Maria’s four children, Troy Briand and Cheyenne Lane and her husband David all of Gloucester, Laura Holt of Middleton and Henry Holt of Claremont, NH; three grandchildren, Meghan Murphy and Samantha and Owen Lane; his very close and longtime friends, Kay and Martin Ray and Jesse Rubin all of Gloucester, Rebecca and Donald Wright and Crystal Leissner all of NH and Leslie Wind of Rockport and his three cherished dogs, "Pappy", "Gemi" and "Charlie."
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester, from 4 – 7 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. Services will be privately held. In lieu of flowers, contributions made be made in his memory to the Velez Family, 23 Church St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
