Mr. Arthur Walter Potvin, a resident of Lawrence and beloved husband of Bernice J. (Higham) Potvin, died at the Lawrence General Hospital on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. He was 80 years old.
Born in Lawrence on July 6, 1931, he was the son of the late Napoleon and Gertrude (Lavoie) Potvin. Mr. Potvin was a graduate of Punchard High School in Andover and Merrimack College, Class of 1959. Arthur was a Korean Army veteran entering the military at Boston on February 11, 1952 and receiving his honorable discharge from Ft. Devens on January 13, 1955. While in the military, Mr. Potvin attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, ROK Presidential Unit Emblem, Meritorious Unit Emblem, Good Conduct Medal and 2 Overseas Bars for his exemplary service.
Arthur worked for Raytheon as a Statistical Analyst in the Quality Control Department for more than 30 years and had been employed at Essem Packing Company in Lawrence and Howard Johnson Motor Lodge in Methuen. A former member of Sacred Heart Church, Arthur was also a member of the American Legion and the Over 55 Club in Lawrence. His passion was genealogy for his family tree and that of others.
Besides his loving wife, Bernice, Arthur will be missed by his children; Arleen B. and her husband Michael J. Bradley of Lawrence, Paula J. Potvin and her spouse Anita J. Huot of Newburyport, Marcia H. and her husband Paul D. Lambert of Lawrence and Alan A. and his wife Kathleen A. Potvin of Goffstown, New Hampshire, grandchildren; Kelly, Brian, Grace, Anya, Victoria, Benjamin, AJ, Kasey and MacKenzie, brothers; Napoleon and his wife Irene Potvin of Lawrence, Raymond and his wife Eleanor of Andover and Walter and his wife Sandra Potvin of Salem, New Hampshire and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral mass was celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, Saturday, March 24, 2012, at noon. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Calling hours were held on Friday, March 23, 2012, from 4 to 8 PM in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover. Burial was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in North Andover.
