Obituary

Worcester- Jay M. Malmquist, of 26 Harvard St., died Tuesday, April 6, in St. Vincent Hospital.His wife, Janet (Ryan) Belec Malmquist, died in 1986. His first wife, Marcia (Russell) Malmquist, died in 1975.

He leaves a son, Scott M. Malmquist of Worcester; two daughters, Pamela Malmquist of Worcester and Karen Coakley of Spencer; a brother, William Malmquist of Shrewsbury; 4 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; nephews and nieces. Another brother, Dr. Carl Malmquist of Shrewsbury, predeceased him. He was born in West Hartford, CT, son of Carl and Olive B. (James) Malmquist and lived here most of his life.

Mr. Malmquist manufactured grinding wheels for 40 years in the machine division of Norton Company, retiring in 1991. At one time, he owned and operated Jays Sporting Goods, a rod and gun store in West Boylston, specializing in hunting and fishing equipment and supplies.He was a member of Burncoat Baptist Church and was a Mason with the Most Worshipful Boylston Lodge. He was an accomplished trumpet player, having played in bands around Worcester County.

He was a veteran, having served his country during the Korean Conflict. He served with the Army, Air Force, and the Massachusetts National Guard.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, in Hope Cemetery, 119 Webster St. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, Canton, OH 44720. DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., is directing arrangements.
