Mrs. Nancy Giacalone, age 87, of Medford formerly of Boston’s North End passed away on Saturday, March 17th, at the Winchester Hospital following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Giacalone.
Born in Salemi, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Gaetana (Caradonna) Conforto. She was educated in Sicily and emigrated from Sicily to the United States in 1955 settling with her family in the North End of Boston. She later moved with her family to Medford in 1966.
In earlier years she was a seamstress and worked on many fine and fancy garments. She will be remembered as an avid and great cook. Her life was made rich by the closeness of her family, family gatherings and get togethers. She loved to walk, mall walk or anywhere else! She was at home in her garden and an active participant in the Medford Senior Center Bingo. She was a woman of deep faith and kept holy the feast days of her favorite saints, St. Lucy and St. Joseph.
She leaves three daughters, Frances Favuzza and her husband Frank of Woburn, Gaetana “Tina” Giacalone of Malden and Pauline Memme and her husband John of Medford. She was the loving grandmother of Dr. Joanne Favuzza, Suzanne Favuzza, Frank Favuzza Jr., Sabrina and Nicholas Memme. Dear sister of Marianina Belafiore of Italy and the late Pietro, Nicola, Salvatore, Antonia, Maria Conforto and Gaetana Rubino. Cherished aunt of several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Thursday, March 22nd, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church 118 High St. Medford at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with entombment at the Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum.
