Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Catherine R. “Katie” Favazza, 89, died Thursday evening, March 15, 2012 in the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Gloucester on June 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Maccheri) Favazza. She was a lifelong resident and had attended Gloucester public schools.
Employed as a fish packer for many years, she worked for the former Birdseye Seafoods and Cape Ann Fisheries. She was member of the Seafood Retirees, Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church and the Madonna del Rosario Society. Katie had also been a dedicated volunteer for twenty-five years at the Council on Aging and the Rose Baker Senior Center for which she was the recipient of the President’s Call to Service Award. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her sister, Anna Thompson; her brother-in-law, Harold Pratt and many nieces and nephews including, Ronald Thompson, Peter, Jim and Geneva Pratt. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Grace Pratt and Frances Evans and five brothers, Benny, Michael, Joseph, Sam and Peter Favazza.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 9:30 a.m. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
