Mary Lamar Ross (Dickey) Yancey, 86, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, April 8, 2004 at Osceola Nursing Home, Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, April 12, 2004, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald with Rev. Bobby Rodgers and Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Yancey was born August 10, 1917, in Winder, Georgia, to the late William Custer Ross and Sally Lowe Anthony Ross. She was the widow of C.W. (Wimp) Yancey and was also preceded in death by one brother, John Nolan Ross and three sisters, Inez Ross Archer, Lucy Lowe Ross Garrison and Julia Ross Collier. Mrs. Yancey was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, the Bethany Sunday School Class, Sanctuary Choir, Hem of His Garment Ministry and the Young at Heart. She was a member of the Wiregrass Quilting Guild, Fitzgerald Boat Club, Silver Heads National Camping Club, Fitzgerald Music Club, Dorminy Medical Center Auxillary, AARP and the Bernhardt Singers. She was also a former member and president of the Cherokee Garden Club. Mrs. Yancey had worked as a bookkeeper and cashier at Belk Hudson Dept. Store and had worked for several florists in Fitzgerald. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, and made many beautiful keepsakes for her family. She loved making beautiful floral arrangements for her church, garden club and friends.
Mrs. Yancey is survived by one daughter: Rosemary Y. Griffin, and one grandson, Paul A. Griffin, two great-grandsons, Duston A. Griffin and Garrett P. Griffin, all of Fitzgerald; and several nieces and nephews.
