LLULL, Joseph M age 90 of New Milford, NJ passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, March 17, 2012. Beloved husband of Louisa (nee Bures) for 57 years. Cherished father of Joseph, Mary Scanlon and her fiancé Thomas O’Connell. Devoted Papa of Jessica, Erin and Catherine. Dear brother of Helen Perez (Riverdale, NY), Ramon Perez (Washougal, WA) and Antonio Perez (Margate, FL). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joseph was born “Jose Manuel Perez” in Adjuntas, PR on June 9, 1921 where he lived on a farm until he came to New York City at the age of 17. He enlisted in the U.S. Army-Air Force in 1941, the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked. He served until 1945 in the 6th Air Force in the Panama Canal Zone. Joe was a hard worker, as an auto mechanic, all his life. He owned his own body and fender shop in NYC. He also enjoyed oil painting, reading and loved to do all of his own house repairs and improvements. Collecting antique-sewing machines was one of his greatest passions, and he was a charter member of Toy Stitches International. He also loved to travel and took his family on many cross-country-road trips. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Friends and family are invited for visitation at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 268 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell, NJ on Tuesday from 6-9 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 AM. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
