TAUNTON – Mateus R. Freitas, husband of Maria V. (Felipe) Freitas, died at Longmeadow of Taunton on March 17, 2012.
He was 74.
Born, raised and educated in Terceira, Azores, he was the son of the late Mateus R. and Maria (Correia Avilia) DaRocha Freitas.
A veteran of the Portuguese Army, he moved to Taunton in 1969 and was employed by Texas Instruments in Attleboro as a buffer for over twenty years.
He retired in the year 2000 at the age of sixty-one.
A communicant of Annunciation of The Lord Church, Mr. Freitas enjoyed taking cruises with his wife, and was an avid Ben Fica futbal fan.
He was a member of the Taunton Sports Club and Amigos da Terceira of Pawtucket, RI.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Joseph Freitas of Taunton; a daughter, Aida Wentworth and her husband Thomas of North Attleboro; a brother, Jose Freitas of Brazil; two grandsons, Drew and Randy, both of North Attleboro; a nephew, Jay deFreitas of CA; and a niece, Dina Machado of CA.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Wednesday, March 21st at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 20th, from 5 to 8 p.m.
