Doris Murphree, age 87, of Foley, AL (formerly Germantown, TN) passed away peacefully on March 16, 2012. He had lived five months with his son, Robert, and daughter-in-law, Janet, in Foley, AL. He was born in Vardaman, MS on March 23, 1924 to Claude and Sammie Murphree. Mr. Murphree was retired from the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Postal Service. He was in the U.S. Army in WWII seeing action with the 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, surviving the Battle of the Buldge.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, March 19, 2012 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will be held following visitation at 11:00 AM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Raymond Aven officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Crest Cemetery in Yalobusha County with Bobby Murphree, Robert Inman, J.T. Martin, John Loper, Bobby Moore and James Short serving as pallbearers.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Taylor of Southaven, MS and Jacquelyn Taylor of Germantown, TN; a son, Robert D. (Janet) Murphree of Foley, AL; and a brother, Frank Murphree of Coffeeville, MS.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dovie Durline Murphree, who passed away on March 18, of 2010; and two brothers, Doyle Murphree and Wayne Murphree.
