Cleomanis G. “Cleo” Karahalis, age 89, of Abington, died March 14, 2012 at Baypointe Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the beloved husband for 38 years of Sandra A. (Montgomery) Karahalis. Born in Medford, he was the son of the late George Gregory and Julia (Gouzoulis) Karahalis. Cleo was a graduate of Medford High School and continued his studies in theology at Harvard University and Tufts. During World War II, he was involved in the printing of detailed maps for the military that were used overseas. As a skilled Lithographer, he enjoyed many years as the proprietor of American Color in Abington. He was also employed for several years by Abington Savings Bank, retiring in 2004. Cleo was a global harmonica player and one of his fondest memories was playing at the Blarney Castle in Ireland. He was known for his love of music, humor, painting, pen and ink and his discussions on theology. It was through laughter and music that he touched so many lives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Norman Karahalis and his wife Amariet of Wareham, David Karahalis and his wife Heather of Brockton, Julia Karahalis and her husband Edward Neubauer of Providence, RI and Kleomanis Karahalis of Maryland; five grandchildren, Nathaniel, Laura and Olivia Karahalis, Cameron Truit and Kiana Karahalis-Neubauer. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Gregory Karahalis, Theodore G. Karahalis and Elaine Larson.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Sunday 2-5pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Monday at 9am for a Funeral Mass in St. Patrick Church at 10am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
