Obituary

Kirk, Kathleen A., aged 100, of Osterville, formerly a long-time resident of Newton, died peacefully at home on March 15, 2012. Kathleen was born in Boston, the daughter of John and Maude Kirk.

She was graduated from Tufts University in 1933 and was a teacher for many years, including starting a pre-school for the children of the faculty of Phillips Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. During World War II, Kathleen served as a director of the USO in New England, organizing social events and support for servicemen across the region. She was also the Executive Secretary to Newton Mayor Howard Whitmore, Jr., from 1954 to 1959.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her thirteen brothers and sisters; Sarah Kirk, John Kirk, Marie Bishop, George Kirk, Rose Kirk, Joseph Kirk, Anne Dudley, Francis Kirk, Justin Kirk, Paul Kirk, William Kirk, Parker Kirk and Lawrence Kirk. She is survived by her many nephews and nieces, and their many children and grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to Visiting hours on Sunday, March 18, between the hours of 4:00 -6:00 p.m. at the Doane, Beal & Ames funeral home, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA. A funeral mass will be celebrated in her memory at 11 a.m., Monday, March 19, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Avenue, Osterville, MA. A burial ceremony will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
