Obituary

Evans, GA – Mr. Louis Grady Thigpen, beloved husband of Frances Lofton Thigpen, entered into rest on March 14, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons and their wives – Ron and Mary Carolyn Thigpen of Augusta, GA and Stan and Laurie Thigpen of Spokane, WA.

A man of deep faith, Mr. Thigpen faithfully served several churches in the Augusta area as a deacon and in other roles. He was a Gideon, very devoted to his Lord.

As a manager of specialized heavy equipment Mr. Thigpen helped engineer the construction of Clarks Hill Dam, the St. Lawrence Seaway, Mangla Dam (Pakistan), Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River (WA) and the Guri Dam (Venezuela). He was also a supervisor in management at SRS. Most recently he lived his faith by working at Platt’s Funeral Home assisting others in their time of bereavement.

He is also survived by grandchildren: Carrie Thigpen (Jamie) Hodge of Evans, GA, Dan (Emilie) Thigpen of Walla Walla, WA, Ben Thigpen of Grand Forks, ND; and Megan Thigpen (Derek) Klassen of Fairbanks, AK; and sister Ellen Wren and brother James M. Thigpen.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 until service time.
