Obituary

HAWKRIDGE, Edwin of Wellesley & Falmouth, passed away quietly on March 13th, 2012, 90 years old. Edwin was born in Boston in 1921, the son of the late Leslie Dean and Linda (McLain) Hawkridge, the beloved husband for 63 years of Edith Crouse Hawkridge; father of Nancy H. Jacques (Mark) of Bainbridge, WA, Leslie D. (Terry) Hawkridge (Katherine) of Clinton, NY, Timothy E. Hawkridge (Molly) of Needham, MA, Winifred H. Sienkiewicz of Assonet, MA, Andrew M. Hawkridge of Canton, MA; 14 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Brother of Robert M. Hawkridge and the late Allen C. Hawkridge.

Edwin attended The Rivers School and graduated Dartmouth College in 1942, cum laude / Phi Beta Kappa. Edwin served 3 ½ years in the Navy in the Pacific on the destroyers Vogelgesang & Wadsworth, earning 5 battle stars and a unit citation during WWII, honorary discharged as a first lieutenant. Edwin was elected and served 7 terms on the Newton School Committee while working 25 years in the family business in Malden, Hawkridge Brothers Steel. For five years Edwin worked for the Supreme Judicial Court on a management survey. He received his J.D from Suffolk University in 1978 and upon passing the Mass bar in 1979; Edwin served as the deputy court clerk to the Mass Land Court for 20 years, before retiring in 1992. He was an avid golfer, curler, and backyard birder. He sang in local choirs for over 40 years.

The Funeral service will be Saturday, March 17th at 12:30 PM at the Parish of the Good Sheppard, 1671 Beacon Street, Waban, MA followed by interment at The Newton Cemetery on Walnut Street. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
