Rudolph A. Schaufler, 67, of 29 Overlook Rd., Gales Ferry, met the Lord on April 7, 2004.
He was born in Ozone Park, NY, on March 27, 1937 to the late Rudolf Stefan and Caroline Geyer Schaufler.
He graduated Lehigh University as a mechanical engineer in 1958. He later earned his masters in mechanical engineering from UCONN in 1965 and CT P.E. license in 1980. He began his career in 1958 at Babcock & Wilcox in Ohio where he met his wife Brenda L. Amos. They were married in 1960, and in 1961 relocated to Groton, CT where they began working at Electric Boat. In 1974 he helped found the engineering company, Proto-Power Corporation from which he retired as president in 1994.
Rudy is loved and survived by his wife Brenda, his son Rudy and wife Lynn of Westerly, RI, daughter Debra Lalonde and husband Adam of Waterford, CT, and son Kurt and wife Deborah of Gales Ferry, CT, as well as seven grandchildren (Timmy, Sharon, Ricky, Samantha, Stefanie, Victoria and Gabrielle) and a sister Carolyn Diemicke of Ponce Inlet, FL, and many extended family members. He was predeceased by his twin brother Edward of Beaver, PA.
He was a Christian man, and his life reflected that. Over the years, he served the church in many capacities, and was recently a member of Grace Fellowship in North Stonington. He also served on the Board of Directors for His Mansion, a ministry in New Hampshire for troubled young people. He was a reference counselor for Larry Burketts’s Christian Financial Concepts, now Crown Ministry, helping people manage their finances. In addition, he enjoyed trips to Israel, Greece, and Alaska with Charles Stanley, and served on a short-term missions trip to India.
He loved life, often telling stories of his many experiences. He loved his work as an engineer at B&W, EB and Proto-Power, and he valued his co-workers. Rudy enjoyed his retirement. He loved music, being outdoors and helping family and friends. His pride and joy were his children and grandchildren, and he will be greatly missed.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, historic downtown Mystic on Monday from 6-8pm. A Memorial Service will be conducted at Grace Fellowship, Rte. 184, North Stonington, on Tuesday at 10am. Private interment in Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard.
