Obituary

CHICOPEE – Frederick M. “Fred” Niemiec, 67, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 from the comfort and quiet of his home. He was born in Holyoke on March 1, 1943, a beloved son of the late Frederick and Elsie S. (Hahn) Niemiec. He was raised in Willimansett, graduated from Chicopee High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. He was previously a trucker and was a member of the teamsters local. He was a longtime home remodeler in the Chicopee area and was sought after by many people because of his knowledge and meticulous work. Fred was a member of the Springfield Musicians Local 160 and was a longtime well known musician in the area. He played the accordion for many years at Mountain Park in Holyoke and for many of the area bands. He was a member of the Accordions Teachers Association and was a communicant of Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Willimansett. He was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and brother. He adored his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He leaves his beloved wife, Diana L. (Terault) Niemiec. They were married on August 5, 1967 at Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Willimansett and were blessed with over 43 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving sons, Paul F. Niemiec and his wife, Laurie of Westfield and Robert A. Niemiec and his wife, Sarah of Westfield; his four cherished grandsons whom he adored, Cameron and Connor Niemiec and Andrew and Benjamin Niemiec and his loving sister, Suzanne Niemiec of Enfield, CT. His funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, January 18, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. from the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street in Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 56 Saint Anthony Street in Chicopee. His burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street in Chicopee. His family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Rose Chapel on Monday, January 17, 2011 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
