Obituary

CHICOPEE – John O. “Jack” Marceau, 74, of Chicopee Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 surrounded by his loving family after a three year battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born in Springfield on February 9, 1936, he was the son of the late Raymond P. and Opalma J. (Forcier) Marceau. Raised in Chicopee, he graduated in 1954 from Chicopee High School. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and attained the rank of Radioman Second Class. He later furthered his education and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western New England College in Springfield. He began his early working career at Uniroyal in Chicopee. He then worked as a sales representative for the
Rockbestos Company in Connecticut and the Colonial Rubber Company in South Carolina and Tennessee. He was last employed by the Pawling Corporation in Pawling, New York. In addition, he was co-owner of Carefree Coolers. He was a longtime communicant of the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and currently a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, John O. Marceau, Jr. who passed away on December 1, 2003; his sister-in-law, Theresa M. Rivest who passed away on November 26, 1982 and his brother-in-law, Reverend Monsignor Leo A. Leclerc who passed away on May 23, 2010. He leaves his wife, Jeannette M. (Leclerc) Marceau. They were married on September 21, 1963 at Saint George Church in Chicopee and were blessed with 47 years together. He also leaves his
three daughters, Lisa M. Cavanaugh of Windsor, CT, Danielle M. Bauman and Nicole M. Marceau, both of Chicopee; his three grandchildren, Ashley N. Marceau, Jared A. Bauman, and Brianna T. Cavanaugh; his brother, Raymond P. Marceau, Jr. and his wife, Theresa of Hallandale, FL; his sister, Janet T. (Ayotte) Sheehan and her husband, James of Springfield; his mother-in-law, Alvine (Leclerc) Maynard of Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke; his three brothers-in-law, Joseph Leclerc and his wife, Lorraine of Ludlow, Paul Laury Leclerc and his wife, Laurie of Chicopee and Ronald Leclerc and his wife, Janice of Baton Rouge, LA and his many nephews and nieces. His family will receive friends at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street in Chicopee on Sunday, January 9, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, January 10, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street in Chicopee. His burial with Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street in Chicopee. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses be offered in his memory.
