Obituary

Herbert F. Antine, age 78, a retired insurance senior executive and devoted family man, died suddenly at his Sherborn home on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Aurelie M. (Flynn) Antine for the past 18 years.

Born in Manhattan on December 24, 1933, he was the son of the late Dr. Leon and Martha Antine. Herb was raised and educated in the Bronx and continued his education at the University of Miami. While earning his degree, he enlisted with ROTC and after graduation entered the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served in Germany attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was later promoted to Captain while in the reserves.

Herb settled in Connecticut to raise a family while employed with the Kemper Insurance Company. He retired in 1995 after 37 years with the company.
He remarried and wintered in Punta Gorda, Florida, spending the other seasons in Cromwell, CT, and later, Natick. In 1998, he made Punta Gorda home and for several years was a member of both the Punta Gorda Loyal Order of Moose 1693 and 777 and the Lodge of Elks #2606. He returned to Massachusetts, settling in Sherborn last November. A tireless fisherman, Herb also enjoyed golf, reading, and following the stock market daily.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Valerie Antine of Pinellas Park, FL, Thomas Antine of Nanuet, NY, and Cynthia Rodrigues and husband Jamie of Shelton, CT; three stepchildren, Judy Range of Natick, Michael Greeley of Natick, and John Greeley and wife Georgette of Milford; his grandchildren Chelsea, Courtney, and Mia; and a niece, Karen Vespo of Poughkeepsie, NY. He was also the brother of the late Lenore Elkan.

His funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Monday, Mar. 12th at 8:00a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Linus Church, 119 Hartford Street, Natick, at 9:00a.m. Burial will be private.

Visiting hours will be on Sunday, 2 – 5p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Herb’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
