Obituary

Charles T. "Charlie" Aylward, a 49 year resident of Melrose, passed away into eternal life on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Meadowview Care & Rehabilitation in North Reading following an extended illness. He was 78 years old.

Charlie was born in Wrentham on June 30, 1933, one of nine children to the late Thomas L. Aylward and Mary (Mullen) Aylward. He grew up in Medfield and attended the Medfield Public School system and graduated from Medfield High School in 1951. Charlie enlisted into the United States Army on April 14, 1953 and served his country proudly and honorably during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on March 30, 1955 with the rank of Corporal. Charlie furthered his education and recieved his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from Boston College in 1960. He also recieved his Masters Degree in Public Administration from Boston State College in 1976. Charlie worked for the Federal Government as a Health Insurance Specialist for Beneficiary Services under the Medicare Division. He retired in 1999 after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Harold O. Young V.F.W. Post # 2394 of Melrose. Charlie enjoyed his spare time with his dedicated maintenance to his home.

Charlie is the beloved husband of 52 years to Eileen M. (Cashman) Aylward. He is the devoted father of Siobhan Aylward-Gregorio and her husband Nunzio of Middleton and Charles P. Aylward and his wife Michelle Ford of Rowley. He is the loving Papa and Grandpa to Kevin, Daniel, Julia and Douglas. He is the beloved brother of Dorothy Aylward of Medfield, Claire Hutchins of Blackstone and pre-deceased by 1 brother and 5 sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Charlie's Funeral on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose followed by his Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
