Robert J. Whittemore, age 83, of Brockton died March 5, 2012 at West Acres Nursing Home following a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Catherine M. (Donahue) Whittemore and son of the late James and Mary (Kelliher) Whittemore. Bob was raised in Avon, was a graduate of Avon High School and for many years had been employed by the City of Brockton in the school department. He was a veteran of WWII where he served with the Navy and also served with the Army during Korea. He was an avid golfer, a long time member of DW Field Golf Course, and a member of the Bertocci Club and Teamsters Union.
Bob is survived by his children William and his wife Lisa of Taunton, Robert and his wife Lynda of Bridgewater, Lynn Cohan and her fiancé Scott Burgess of Weymouth and Mark and his wife Darlene of Carver; 10 grandchildren, Ashley, Tom, Julianne, Kristine, Brianna, Roberta, Jessica, Amanda, Olivia and Evan, 3 great grandchildren Jayden, Jordan and Aviyana and several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late James Whittemore and brother of the late Phyllis E. (Lynch) Gillis.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Wednesday 5-8pm. The funeral procession will form at the funeral home Thursday at 8am for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, W. Bridgewater.
