Obituary

KOWALEWSKI, OLIVE E. of Marshfield , MA – Formerly of Bridgewater, Warren, and Plymouth, NH at the age of 91 died on March 2nd at her home in Marshfield. Olive was born in Winn ME, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Pelky) Arsenault. She spent her younger years in ME and Brockton, MA. In the 1940’s, Olive worked at the Naval Torpedo Station in Newport, R.I. She met Forrest Howes there. They married and raised their family in Plymouth, NH. When her children were young Olive was active with and Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church where she served as Deaconess and taught Sunday school. She was a 60+ member of Enterprise Rebekah Lodge. After moving to Warren, NH she became an active member of the Warren United Methodist Church, serving on the Church Council, was communion Stewardess, taught Sunday school and was a member of Warren UMC Women’s Club.Most rewarding in Warren was volunteering at Mt Mooselaukee Health Center where she served on the board of trustees, was head volunteer, worked on the Well Child Clinic and was secretary of MMHC Auxiliary. Olive enjoyed hobbies such as bird watching, theater, gardening and playing games with family and friends. In 1992 Olive met again Walter Kowalewski who had been a co-worker 50 years earlier at the torpedo station in RI. They married and resided in Bridgewater, NH and Wintered in Brooksville, FL. After Walter’s death in 2004 she moved to Marshfield, MA. Survivors include son Brett Howes of Marshfield and Cheryl Luneau, daughter Diane Silver of Marshfield and her husband Seraphin, daughter Ann Marie MacDonald of Spring Hill, FL, stepson William Howes and his wife Jacklyn of Meredith, NH, stepdaughter Shirley Lee Via and husband Newsom Via Jr. of Roanoke, VA. She had twenty-one grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and great- greats. She was predeceased by her step-son Forrest Howes and his wife Louise, son-in-law Walter G. Lee, grand- daughter Suzanne Baker, and her two husbands Forrest and Walter.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 7 at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St. rte 139 Marshfield, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow at noon. Interment will take place in NH at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Olive to the Marshfield Council on Aging, 230 Webster St., Marshfield, MA 02050
