George Ziogas, 82 of Worcester, died Friday, March 2nd in St. Vincent Hospital. His wife of 50 years Kaliope (Pappas) Ziogas died in 2007. He is survived by his daughter Bessie, wife of Dionissios Drakodaidis of Worcester; two brothers, Angelo Ziogas and his wife, Litsa of Southbridge and William Ziogas and his wife Irene of Worcester; three sisters, Maria Tranakas and her husband Anthony, Irene Ganias and her husband, Teddy both of Worcester and Aphrodite Barris of St. Petersburg, FL; his granddaughter Aliki Drakodadis and many nephews and nieces.
He was born in Konitsa, Greece, the son of John and Vasiliki Ziogas, and came to Worcester in 1965. He was employed by Table Talk Pie in the maintenance and sanitation department. Mr. Ziogas served in the Greek Army. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral; and was an avid soccer fan, following his favorite Greek teams on television and enjoyed playing gin.
The funeral is Tuesday, March 6th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with his service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are, Monday, March 5th from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home
