Obituary

QUINEBAUG, CT - Marther H. (Lamond) Hainer, 100, a longtime resident of Quinebaug, died Friday, March 2, 2012 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, after a period of declining health. Her husband of 49 years, Rev. Herbert M. Hainer, died in 1982.

She leaves a son, Rev. Dr. Charles A. Hainer and his wife Margaret of Belleville, Ontario; 3 grandchildren, Allen J. Hainer and his wife Gabi of Germany, Dr. Steven C. Hainer and his wife Penny of Lindsay, Ontario, and Carloyn A. Nelson of Maryland; 8 great grandchildren, Noah, Andrew, Jeffrey, Benjamin, Riley, Gage, Phoenix and Ever.

She was born in Fall River on April 3, 1911, the daughter of Allen and Mary (Hatch) Lamond. She lived in New Bedford from 1916 to 1932. She then resided in Hartford, Winsted and Hampton, CT before moving to Quinebaug in 1972. She lived at Christopher Heights in Webster, MA since December.

She graduated from the commercial course at New Bedford High School in 1928.

Mrs. Hainer was a church secretary at various churches, most recently at the First Congregational Church in Dudley before retiring.

She was a member of the first Congregational Church in Dudley, and served as its treasurer for 10 years and clerk for 5 years. She sang as a soprano in the choir. She was also a member and past president of the Ladies Benevolent Society. She belonged to Dudley Grange for many years and held several offices.

Previously, she was a member of the Hampton (CT) Congregational Church, the American Red Cross, and the Winstead Hospital Board of Directors. She was a member of the Connecticut State Board of Congregational Churches and a former member of the Auxiliary of the Windham Hospital in Willimantic. She was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed crafts.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 9, at 11:00 AM in the First Congregational Church, 135 Center Road, Dudley. Burial will be at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery in New Bedford, MA. Donations in her name may be made to the First Congregational Church Endowment Fund, 135 Center Road, Dudley, MA 01571. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, MA.
