Obituary

Hilda J. (Lopes) Mello of Reading passed away on Monday, April 5, 2004 at Lahey Hitchcock Center in Burlington. She was 91 years of age.

Born in Somerville, Hilda was the daughter of the late John Lopes and Irene (Pacheo) Lopes. Hilda was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all.

Hilda was a dedicated homemaker for many years. She was an extraordinary mother, grandmother. Her family was of utmost importance in her life, she loved watching it grow. Hilda was a very talented baker, and was known for her Christmas cookies. She was an extremely devout Catholic, and was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Agnes Parish for many years. Hilda was a hairdresser and loved to square dance.

Hilda was the beloved wife of the late Emmanuel Mello, whom she married in January of 1937. She was the devoted mother of Paul T. Mello and his wife Helene of Jacksonville, VT, and the late Emmanuel T. Mello Jr. Hilda was the cherished grandmother of Manny Mello III, Janice Brunelle, Brian Mello, William Mello, Diane Dodge, Christi Ray and Wendy Banford. She was the loving great grandmother of 11, and the dear sister of Mary Carey, Irene Myers, and the late Dorothy Murphy, Alice Gregario, Freddy, Jimmy and John Lopes. Hilda was also the mother in law of Diane B. Mello of Berlin.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Saturday at 10am followed by a Pro Burial Mass celebrated in St. Maria Goretti Church 112 Chestnut St. Lynnfield at 11am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Friday 4-8pm. Parking attendants will be on duty. Interment Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
