Obituary

O’CONNOR, Dr. John Francis, of North Falmouth formerly of Dedham and Westwood, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on March 1, 2012. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Anne Walsh O’Connor and his six children: William W. O’Connor of Mashpee, Stephen and Margot O’Connor of Amherst, Mary-Jeanne and Mark Manning of Dedham, Kathleen and James Hayes Jr. of Weymouth, Michael and Jane O’Connor of Foxboro, and Daniel and Elizabeth O’Connor of Brookline. He also leaves behind a loving sister, Alice Mary Lindner of West Falmouth. He was predeceased by his oldest son John Francis O’Connor III and his sister Joan Horan. He was a loving “Poppa” to his 15 grandchildren: Brendan, Erin and Liam O’Connor, John and Olivia Manning, Jimmy, Connor, Ryan, Michael, and Matthew Hayes, Julia and Caitlin O’Connor, and Jack, Katie, and Claire O’Connor. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Dr. O’Connor was a graduate of Boston College High School ‘48, Boston College ‘52 and Boston University School of Medicine ‘57. He trained in Pediatrics at Boston City Hospital and completed his Radiology residency at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. Dr. O’Connor led a distinguished career at Boston University School of Medicine as a professor of Anatomy, Pediatrics, and Radiology. He served as Dean of Admissions for 21 years. He was chief of the Radiology Department at Franciscans Children’s Hospital from 1965 to his retirement. He was Director of Pediatric Radiology at Boston University Medical Center and Boston City Hospital. He was a member of numerous medical societies and held offices in many. He received the Gold Medal from The Society of Pediatric Radiology in 1997, this recognition by his peers was his proudest professional moment.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St. DEDHAM, Monday, March 5th at 10 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham at 11 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Sunday, March 4th from 4-8 PM. Private Interment Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.
