TEWKSBURY - Charles A. English, age 81, died Thursday morning, March 1, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA, following a long period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Theresa C. (Gagnon)(Cadiero) English, with whom he would have celebrated a 23rd wedding anniversary on March 25th.
He was born in Watertown, November 6, 1930, the youngest of five children of the late Carmen and Mary (DeVinctis) English, and was raised in Watertown. He graduated from Watertown High School and enlisted into the Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged after receiving leg injuries while serving in Korea.He worked as a machine operator for West Vaco box manufacturing company in Watertown, where he served as Union Shop Steward, and later as a machine operator at Prince Spaghetti in Lowell. He retired from the E.N. Rogers V.A. Hospital in Bedford, where he had worked as a cook. He had resided in Tewksbury since 1965.
He was a member of the Tewksbury Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8164, the Tewksbury American Legion Post 259, and served as Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Post 110 in Tewksbury.
He was an avid fan of professional sports and was especially loyal to Boston's sports teams.
Besides his wife, he is survived by six children, Louis C. English and his wife Linda, and Charles E. English all of Farmington, NH, Edward C. English and his wife Rosemary of Salem, NH, Karen Kaplan and her husband Roger of San Diego, CA, Stephen Cadiero and his wife Lenora of Lemon Grove, CA, Sharon Quebec and her husband Mark of Leominster; a son in law, Paul Theriault of Pelham, NH, who was the husband of his late daughter, Maryetta Theriault; six grandchildren, Caitlin English of Newton, MA, Beth Morrelli of Burlington, VT, Christopher Canty of Lowell, Stephanie Cadiero of Lemon Grove, CA, Peter Ruiz of San Diego, CA, Alicia Fitzpatrick of Billerica; two great grandsons, Mateo and Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his daughter Maryetta, he was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Pefine) English in 1988, his brothers, Ralph "Roy" English, Samuel English, and Thomas English; and a sister, Jenny LeBlanc.
