Obituary

Danvers: Spiro P. Kapnis, age 89, a former resident of Danvers, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home. He was the devoted husband of the late Grace I. (LeBlanc) Kapnis with whom he had shared 57 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Evangelo and Jane M. (Jones) Kapnis. A 20 year career man with the U.S. Navy, “Kappy” served in the Pacific during World War II. He served with the Navy from 1942 through 1962. Following his military career, he began working as an engineer for the Salem Power Plant and soon after joined Kodak Eastman Gelatin Co. in Peabody where he worked until his retirement.
Kappy was a well known figure around Danvers center, and was often found at Cigars-R-Us enjoying his favorite cigar. An extremely polite and respectful man, Kappy was in every sense an “officer and a gentleman” who will be missed by many.
He is survived by his son, Paul J. Kapnis of Dania Beach, FL, his daughter, Joyce J. Robinson and her husband Larry of Lynn, a sister, Elizabeth Sochat of Danvers, and a brother, John Kapnis and his wife Ruth of Salem. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Frederick Johnston & Dennis Kapnis, and his sister Helen DeCoff.
