Obituary

METHUEN – Madeline C. (Gallant) Furneaux Walker 96 of Methuen, MA, died Monday February 27, 2012 at the Nevin’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Methuen, MA.

Born and educated in Haverhill, the daughter of Aubin and Mary (Daley) Gallant. and was a graduate of St. James High School Class of 1933. She lived in Bradford and moved to Lawrence in 1939 after she married her first husband Lawrence Furneaux, who passed away in 1959. In 1968, she married Robert B. Walker, living in Lawrence for 47 years before moving to Methuen in 1986 until his passing in August of 2011.

For 16 years she was employed at Frank C. Meyers Company and for 12 years at Merrimack Paper, retiring in 1980. Madeline was a parishioner of St. Lucy’s Church in Methuen where she was a member of the Ladies Sodality and the Altar Society and enjoyed decorating the church for various events and religious holidays.

Celia was the first to compliment and the last to criticize. She touched everyone she met because of her easy smile and consistently positive attitude regardless of what she had going on in her life. “So what’s new with you”? she would always ask. She was happiest spending time with her family, especially at Wells Beach, Maine, reading on the porch and watching the generations grow up around her. For her, “it was never about the food, it was the people”. She was a talented seamstress, sewing beautiful clothing not only for herself, but for her daughters and granddaughters, teaching some to sew along the way. Her legacy will be the way she lived her life, teaching by example to all who knew and loved her. Madeline’s family would like to offer a special thankyou for the compassionate care she and her husband Robert received during their stay at Nevins.

Madeline was pre-deceased by her husbands Lawrence Furneaux and Robert B. Walker and is survived by her two daughters; Jean Tearno of Methuen, MA and Eileen Magnuson and her husband John of Melbourne, FL.
Two brothers John Gallant and his wife Ellen of Methuen, MA and Albin Gallant and his wife Norma of Hampton, NH.
Grandchildren Larry Scannell, Sean Scannell, Kathy Clayton and her husband Matt, Laury Cote and her husband Steve, Carl Tearno and his wife Nikki and Amy Magnuson.
Great-grandchildren Amanda and Zack Cote, Walker and Celia Budwig-Scannell, Jonathan and Madison Covert, Lily and Gianna Tearno and Ryan Dascanio.
