Obituary

CHICOPEE – Florence L. (Brown) Riley, 93, a former longtime resident of Ludger Avenue in the Aldenville section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Sunday, January 22, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life from Wingate at South Hadley where she resided for the past 10 years surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Holyoke on February 7, 1918, a beloved daughter of the late Franklyn and Marion (Fortier) Brown. She was raised in Holyoke and lived in the city for many years before moving to Aldenville in 1954. She was employed for many years at various jobs and worked in area department stores, factories, at the Ivory Billiards in Holyoke and in child care. She was last employed for 24 years in a job that she truly loved as a Senior Companion for the Chicopee Council on Aging Senior Companion Program. She was active in city politics with the Democratic Party, was a member of the Debra Drive Social Club, a longtime den mother for the Cub Scouts and also active with the Girl Scouts. She was a communicant of the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Willimansett. Most of all she was a wonderful homemaker to her family whom she adored and showered with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Michael Joseph Riley who was Called Home on February 4, 1965. She leaves: her devoted children, Michael Franklyn Riley and his wife, Marla of Eugene, OR, Judith Ann Ringenbach and her husband, Adrian “Skip” of Chicopee, Richard James Riley and his wife, Catherine of Westfield, Joseph Patrick Riley and his wife, Janet of Sturbridge, MA, Mary Ellen Riley and her husband, Michael Henegar of Eugene, OR and Catherine Marion Laflamme and her husband, Michael of Chicopee; her 17 cherished grandchildren; her 18 cherished great-grandchildren; her two cherished great-great grandchildren; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her three dear sisters, Madeleine Bliss, Marion Rota and Claire Dascanio. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday morning, January 26, 2012 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.) followed by a Prayer Service at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. Her burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery, Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Amethyst Chapel on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Chicopee Council on Aging Senior Companion Program, 7 Valley View Court, Chicopee, MA 01020
