Obituary

CHICOPEE – Winifred S. (Therrien) Leonard, 77, of the Fairhaven Apartments in the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born at home in Chicopee on February 10, 1934, a beloved daughter of the late Mitchell A. and Lena M. (Bellmore) Therrien. She was raised in Holyoke, attended the former Precious Blood Elementary School and lived in the city for many years before moving back to Chicopee around 1963. She was employed at the former Ren Electronics and was last employed at the National Blank Book Company, which later became Avery Dennison, for 30 years before retiring in 1996. She was a quiet woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She was predeceased by: her beloved husband and best friend of 42 years, Ernest J. Leonard, Jr., who was Called Home on January 30, 2006; her loving son, Kevin Todd; and her dear brothers and sister, Romeo, Kenneth and Clifford Therrien and Juliette Doyon. She leaves: her loving children, Gary M. Leonard and Ronald K. Leonard and his fiancée, Bonnie Trombley, all of Chicopee and Bonnie Lee Roark of Biloxi, MS; her four loving step-children, Irene Galecki and her husband, Joseph and Kenneth Leonard, all of Spring Hill, FL, Catherine Gold of West Springfield and Gale Gillette and her husband, Gary of Chicopee; her cherished granddaughter, Heather M. Hughes; her cherished great-grandchildren, Aydan A. Lugo and Jayda Remelli; her dear sister, Loretta Lewkowicz of Holyoke; her many dear sisters-in-law; and many dear nephews and nieces and extended family. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, January 10, 2012, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 8:15 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Rose Chapel on Monday, January 9, 2012 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
