Alfred Lee Evans (February 21, 1931 – February 28, 2012)
Alfred Lee Evans died at Gateway Medical Center.
He was born in Sobol, Oklahoma on February 21, 1931 to Joe L. and Lillian Evans and preceded in death by his siblings, Dayton Hardcastle, George Hardcastle, and Helen Palmer.
Funeral service at 10 Thursday at Neal -Tarpley-Parchman Chapel in Clarksville with Steve Kirby officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
Al (called Sonny in his youth) attended Black Oak Elementary and graduated in 1950 from Springdale High School in Springdale, Arkansas. During college, he sold Bibles for Southwestern Publishing, trained in the ROTC and attended David Lipscomb College. In 1953 he married Betty Tanner. From 1955-57 he attended the Army Medical Service School at Fort Sam Houston, served in Okinawa, Japan and was a US Army Commissioned Officer. In 1957 he graduated with a chemistry degree from MTSU.
Al moved to Clarksville and worked for Merck as a pharmaceutical sales representative for 32 years. In 1971 he received his law degree. He was an original member of Hilldale Church of Christ and was recently honored as a 50 year member. In his retirement he played golf, researched investment opportunities, and wrote poetry.
He is survived by his sister Deanie Dobkins of Arcadia, OK; wife Betty Evans of Clarksville; sons Alfred Evans of Smyrna, TN and Joe Evans of Clarksville, daughters Linda Rudolph of Clarksville, Judy Shem of Fairfax, VA; daughers-in-law; Debra Evans of Smyrna, TN and Minoa Uffelman of Clarksville, TN; son-in-law; Andrew Shem of Fairfax, VA; grandchildren; Lee and Rachel Evans of Smyrna, TN, Brett Evans of Nashville, TN, Betty Kay Rudolph of Memphis, TN and Sara Rudolph of West Africa; and great grandson; Alex Evans of Smyrna, TN.
