Obituary

Dr. William Green Lyle died peacefully at his residence in Clarksville on February 28, 2012.
Dr. Lyle was born in Clarksville on February 1, 1920. He was preceded in death by his mother, Amaryllis Green Marable; his stepfather, Houston Lane Marable; and his first wife and mother of his five children, Edna Cordts Lyle.
Known to his friends as Billy Green, he graduated from Vanderbilt University Phi Beta Kappa, and completed medical school there in 1944. Dr. Lyle served his country as a Navy doctor during and after World War II. In 1947, he opened a general medical practice in Clarksville, but was recalled to active duty in 1953 during the Korean War. After returning to Clarksville, he practiced internal medicine there for 35 years, serving two terms as Chief of Staff of Clarksville Memorial Hospital. He was a past president of the Rotary Club, a founding member of the Warioto Audubon Society, and a member of the Blackjack Hunting and Fishing Club.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Stout Lyle; his children, Laurie McCall (Rusty), Lane (Laurina), Lillian Israel (George), Bill (Rose), John (Ann); stepdaughters, Chloe Vezo and Caress Garten (Pat); 15 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; half-brother, Jim Lyle (Jeanne) and exchange-student daughter, Marianne Elvander and family of Uppsala, Sweden.
The family would like to thank all the loving caregivers who helped in Dr. Lyle’s final days, especially Kacy Askins, Ann Cotton, Tina Lightfoot, Kathy Pine and Rita Planinseck.
The family will receive visitors at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home on Thursday, March 1st from 4-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 2, 2012 at 11 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen, Manna Café, or a charity of your choice.
