Obituary

Stephen O'Brien, a lifelong resident of Reading, passed away into eternal life on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at his home in Reading. He was 53 years old.

Steve was born in Winchester on June 6, 1958 to the late Carl C. "Cliff" and Elizabeth (Curtin) O'Brien. Steve grew up in Reading where he attended Reading Public Schools and graduated from Reading High School in 1976. He attended Bridgeton Academy before graduating from Nichols College. Steve worked as a driver for FedEx for 8 years and was a self-employed painter in the Reading area. Steve enjoyed coaching Pop Warner in Reading and was always known as a good cook. In 1985 Steve was awarded Doorman of the Week by the Allston Beat Newspaper. Most of all Steve was a dedicated husband and dad to his children and a loyal friend to many.

Steve participated in experimental cancer treatments to advance the science even after it was understood that these treatments offered little hope for improvement in his case.

Steve is the beloved husband of 18 years to Kirsten D. (Darcy) O'Brien. He is the loving and devoted father of Sheila, Mary Kate, Seamus, Cormac, Brighid and Brennan O'Brien. He is the beloved brother of Michael O'Brien and his wife Peggy of Beverly, Peter O'Brien and his wife Rosemary of Gloucester and Maureen Falla and her late husband Colin of Amherst, New Hampshire. He is the beloved son-in-law of Christine Darcy and her late husband Gerard of Roslindale. He is the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Steve's Funeral on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 8:45 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose/Wakefield line followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
