Shirley M. (Dutra) Monteiro, 74, of New Bedford died Saturday April 3, 2004 at Brandon Woods after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Edward Monteiro.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late John and Rita (Botelho) Dutra.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Mrs. Monteiro was formerly employed as a stitcher at Monarch Manufacturing and Sharpie's Manufacturing until her retirement.
Mrs. Monteiro was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 914. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed dancing at the Sixth Bristol Club.
Survivors include a son, Russell Simpkin of California; 2 daughters, Rita Struchen of Georgia, and Gail Martin of Florida; 3 granddaughters; 7 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Dorothy Souza, Eddie Dutra, John Dutra, and Bernice Georgadarellis, who was her twin.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordMonday April 5, 2004 at 9:30 AM.Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Sunday April 4, 2004 from 4-8 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
