JOHNSON Mary K. (formerly Mary K. McAllister, formerly Mary K. Hazard) of Westwood, formerly of Charleston, SC and Needham, MA, died on February 17, 2012. She was 93 years old.
Beloved wife of Edward A. Johnson and devoted mother of three sons; Sprague W. Hazard and his wife Sally of Charleston, WV, and their three children Hannah W. Hazard, MD of Morgantown, WV, Sprague W. Hazard III, MD and his wife Danielle B. Hazard MD of Hummelstown, PA and Rebecca N. Dick, MPH and her husband Alexander G. Dick of Pittsburgh, PA; son Robert W. Hazard, PAC and his wife Dianne Muchant, MD and his two children Nathaniel S. Hazard and his wife Cynthia of Redondo Beach, CA and Sarah Hazard of Valencia, CA; and son Duncan R. Hazard, AIA of New York City. Mrs Johnson is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson was a 1940 graduate of the University of Rhode Island where she was very active in college activities and women’s sports. She was later inducted into the University of Rhode Island Athletic Hall of Fame for her Captaincy of the women’s Field Hockey team and women’s Tennis team her senior year. Mrs. Johnson also earned a Master’s Degree in high school guidance counseling from Boston University serving as a high school guidance counselor at Needham High School, and Bishop England High School in Charleston, SC.
