Earl F. Lang, 93, of Franklin died February 19 in Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Josephine (Calf) Lang who died in 2009.
Born in Boston, November 20, 1918, the son of the late Philip and Amelia (Pescuma) Lang, Mr. Lang was raised in Norfolk and had lived in Franklin since 1957.
Earl worked for the New Haven Railroad from 1941-1957, except for 1942-1945 when he served in the Army during World War II.
After being laid off in 1957 he became a carpenter-builder in the Franklin area until 1970.
He then went to work in the maintenance department of Windsor Gardens, Norwood for eleven years and then worked for several years as the maintenance man at the Van Doren Nursing Home in Foxboro. Earl then worked briefly as a personal caregiver.
He saw action throughout the European Theatre and was awarded 7 battle stars for his participation. He was one of the Allied Troops that liberated the Dachau Concentration camp.
He was a member of the Foxboro American Legion and the Disabled Veterans.
Earl enjoyed vegetable gardening, cooking, fishing, was an avid Red Sox fan and loved to take his grandchildren on blueberry field trips.
Earl was known as the neighborhood handyman.
He is survived by his children, David P. Lang of Franklin, Michael G. Lang and his wife Maria of Seminole, Fla., Mary E. Lang-Coronti and her husband Frank of Milford, Carol Z. Lang and her husband Paul Howard of Needham, Nancy A. Lang and her husband Dave Williams of Glen Allen, VA, Jeanne E. Kellogg and her husband Charles of New Castle, CA, Christine L. Padula and her husband Jimmy of Milford.
He is also survived by his siblings, Donald Lang of Cape Cod, Herbert Lang of Wrentham, Lawrence Lang of Canton, Thelma Saucier of Port Lucie, Fla., Georgia Ravinski of Norfolk and Eleanor Kerridge of Port Lucie, Fla. He was the brother of the late, Philip, Edward and William Lang and Eileen Mastromatteo.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kenneth Armstrong, Melanie and Bradford Kellogg, Melissa Lang and Kyra Cardullo, and was the grandfather of the late Andrew Kellogg.
He is also survived by his great-grandson Zane Andrew Merritt.
His funeral will be held on Friday, February 24 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin at 11:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary Church at Noon.
Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 6-9 p.m.
