Obituary

Seabrook, New Hampshire – Leonard George Tuminowski Retired Methuen Firefighter died February 16, 2012 at Oceanside Skilled Nursing Facility In Hampton, NH, with his family by his side. He was 88 years old.
Born in Dorchester, Ma. Firefighter Tuminowski was a longtime resident and employee in the Town of Methuen before moving to Seabrook, NH several years ago.
During World War ll he served his country in the U.S. Navy achieving the rank of Aviation Ordnance man Third Class and received the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon prior to wars end.
While residing in Methuen he was a former member of First Church Congregational and a former trustee.
Leonard was very involved in the Town of Methuen, and among the organizations, he was a member of the Methuen Post # 122 American Legion, a former trustee at Nevins Memorial Library.
Some of his special interests were the Methuen Community Chorus, and Methuen Police/ Fire Fighters Retirees Association, Inc.
After retiring, Leonard had many hobbies but his favorite one was writing children’s stories. His first story, The Magic Puppy was published in 2009.
Leonard and his wife Mary enjoyed many years of being snowbirds, spending their winters in Venice Florida. They enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to travel the world. In his younger day, he and his wife Mary enjoyed polka dancing.
Leonard was a man of integrity, compassion and kindness. He was a devoted family man and was proud of his grandchildren. It was his dream to see his grandchildren be happy and successful. Through his guidance, encouragement and support he was extremely proud to see two of his grandchildren become doctors. He was the happiest when his family surrounded him.
Leonard is survived by his wife of 65 years Mary (Chapinski) Tuminowski, pre-deceased by his son William George, surviving children; son’s Robert Leonard Tuminowski, Paul William Tuminowski, and Leonard Adam (Ted) Tuminowski, and one daughter Nancy Jean (Tuminowski) Pietrantonio, three grand-daughters Crystal, Erica, and Gina Marie, three grand-sons, Robert, Jr., Joseph, and Antonio III one great-grand-daughter Brianna, and four great-grand-sons, Ethan, Justin, Jameson, and Eban and brothers Henry and Walter Tuminowski, and one sister Irene (Tuminowski) Stapinski and pre-deceased by his brothers Edward and Alfred.
Funeral services will take place at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the American Parkinson Association 72 East Concord Street, C3, Boston, MA 02118 or online at the Michael J Fox Foundation.
