Obituary

Barbara A. (Maraggia) Ferri, age 82, a former longtime Natick resident, died on Wednesday afternoon, February 15, 2012, at the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham after falling ill at her Sherborn home. She was the beloved wife of Nicholas Ferri.

Born in Boston on November 1, 1929, she was the eldest of three daughters born to Marie (Pozzi) and George Maraggia. Barbara was raised and educated in Dorchester and continued her education at Boston Clerical School where she excelled. She worked as a secretary for the Boston Recreation Department, Superintendant Joseph Lee of the Boston Public Schools, and for the Headmaster of Boston English High School.

Barbara married in August of 1966, and settled with her husband in Natick where she made a home for her family. She returned to the workforce several years later, employed with the Natick Public School’s Department of Special Education until her retirement. She was a longtime active member of Saint Patrick Parish in Natick, and became a member of Saint Theresa of Lisieux Parish after moving to Sherborn nearly ten years ago. She had also volunteered for many years with Leonard Morse Hospital. A wonderful cook and baker, Barbara enjoyed entertaining both friends and family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Nicholas A. Ferri and his wife, Pam Field of Framingham; two sisters, Gloria Delisle of Walpole and Cynthia Morrill of New Haven, CT; an aunt, Angelina Lund of Whitman; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street (at Natick Common) Natick, on Tuesday, Feb. 21st at 9:00a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church, 35 South Main Street, Sherborn at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.

Visiting hours will be Monday 3 – 6p.m. Gifts may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Arthritis Foundation of New England, 29 Crafts St., Newton, MA 02458-1287.
