Jean Leggett Rodgers, 72, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, February 17, 2012, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 20, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Blane Jacobs and the Rev. Earlie Holt officiating. Interment will follow in Landmark Baptist Church Cemetery, Irwin County. Visitation will be held 6-9 Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rodgers was born March 9, 1939 in Fitzgerald to the late Kelly Lee and Louise Lipsey Leggett. She lived in Fitzgerald all of her life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School in 1957. Mrs. Rodgers was former bookkeeper for Worthington & Casper CPA and Home Furniture, which later became Mason Furniture. She was a pastor’s wife and church pianist for Satilla Baptist, New Prospect Baptist, Morningside Baptist and Landmark Baptist, where she held her membership. Mrs. Rodgers was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading, cooking and collecting jigsaw puzzles and old movies.
She is survived by her children, Greg & Paula Rodgers of Parker, TX, Kevin & Kimberly Rodgers of Waycross and Lynn & Tom Marsh of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Kayla (James) Johnson, Austin Adams, Jacob Marsh, Hannah Marsh, Dylan Rodgers, Allison Alford, Elizabeth Rodgers and Ben Rodgers; sisters and brothers, Betty Storey, Robert Leggett and Bill (Merline) Leggett, all of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. J.R. “Bobby” Rodgers, a brother, Donald Leggett and two sisters, Nell Watson and Doris Reynolds.
