John Wilson Nix Sr., 72 , died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at his residence in Taylorsville, GA following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Nix was born in Rockmart, GA on February 4, 1940, to Woodrow and Mildred Edwards Nix. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Scott Nix and Aaron Nix.
He attended Cedartown High School, Young Harris College and later graduated from Shorter College with a degree in education. Mr. Nix had a long career as a high school teacher and athletic coach for several schools in Georgia. He served as principal of Fitzgerald High School, then as assistant superintendent of Ben Hill County Schools, before retiring as transportation director of the Ben Hill County School System.
Survivors include: wife, Sue Taylor Nix of Taylorsville; sons and daughter-in-law, John Nix Jr. and Diane of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Clay Nix of Taylorsville; brother, Byron Nix of Wedowee, Ala., and grandsons, Daniel Nix, Nathan Nix and Zachary Nix, all of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Towns officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery at 1810 Euharlee Rd. in Kingston, GA.
