Sherman Rogers, Jr., age 62, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at his home in Water Valley, MS. He was born April 4, 1949 in Water Valley, MS to the late Sherman Rogers, Sr. and Percy Hickey Rogers. Sherman worked many years for the City of Water Valley in the maintenance department and he was a member of A.M.E. Zion Church of Water Valley, MS. He was a sculptor, enjoyed cooking and working in the yard, and loved taking care of his family, especially his nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 17, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, February 18, 2012 in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Rev. Kenny Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley with Tory Sanders, Colby Sanders, Casey Rogers, Jimmy Wright, Jeffery Phillips and Clay Freeman, Jr. serving as pallbearers. Michael Rogers, Cornell Sanders, Thomas Walton and Leonard Jenkins will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Sherman is survived by his mother, Percy Hickey Rogers of Water Valley, MS; seven sisters, Gloria Jackson, Ginger Walton (Thomas), Joyce Jenkins (Leonard), Linda Rogers, Dahlia Rogers and Carolyn Rogers all of Water Valley, MS and Sharon Sanders (Cornell) of New Orleans, LA; one brother, Michael Rogers of Water Valley, MS; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; a special caregiver, Betty Ward; a special friend, Betty Woodard.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Rogers, Sr.
